I am now looking at three weeks until my experience at Singapore begins (although technically I arrive a day earlier). It is kind of crazy how quickly this is all starting. As part of the research requirement for the scholarship, I am starting my first set of research at Pitt this week with Dr. Akcakaya. While some might say it's crazy to start work again so quickly after just finishing classes, I prefer it this way because I hope to stay in my productive state of mind up to departure so summer laziness doesn't kick in.
It has been an interesting past few weeks, handling both the Singapore and Pitt required paperwork. Nothing has been too stressful thus far and I kept to all the deadlines (I think) so I don't think anything is going to stop me from traveling.
Speaking of traveling, I am a little nervous. I have never gone abroad, let alone even flown on an airplane so the concept of flying 10,390 miles over the span of about 2 days in my first trip is a little daunting at this point. I'm not afraid of crashing or anything, but I just hope nothing goes wrong with baggage or checking everything in during layovers because I don't have any experience in knowing what to do.
I'm going to start counting down the days. I'm really excited to visit Singapore and experience a different culture with a different geography. A lot of my friends are telling me I won't want to come back to America when my time there comes to a close, so I'll get to see if they're right.
